Essential factors
of Philosophy
Tibetan Thanka Painting is strongly bound by tradition
and religion, therefore it is commonly believed that
its disallow artistic freedom. Many of the figures
are drawn from personal mystical visions of the Buddhist
saints themselves, but the figures most definitely
require full creative expression. Once the almost
spiritual connection is developed between the artist
and the painting, each piece is extraordinarily unique
in its own way. There is no question of copying then,
from one to another, as each possesses a live of its
own.

Every time the artist pick up a brush there will
be a different style and a new aspect. The Tibetan
texts are more like a quide to the figures colour,
emblems, the element upon witch they abide, some clothing,
ornaments and positions. Everything else is dependent
upon the creativity of the artist, as how skillfully
the above aspects are executed.
Next to the artist personal philosophy and motivation
for his artistic expression there are a number of
other important factors. It is also essential to have
an understanding of Buddhist philosophy; meditation;
the nature and quality of the dieties; the outer form
and appearance accurately to the viewer.

The emotional state of an artist plays also an important
role in the outcome. A meditation routine assists
the artist in a appropriate state of mind. Every principal
deity resounds with a particular mantra that is to
be recited before starting the work. It’s through
these mediums that one can actually experience a deeper
level of absorption into the work. When the absorption
is so complete one actually feel a spiritual connection
to the painting. One can than begin to conceptualize
the object to be created and mentally compose the
entire layout of the painting. The outcome is that
the paintings completed with this understanding emanate
a special quality of natural reality.
